![]() Despite being one of Oliver's more personal poems, and including references to real events in Oliver's life, many readers will identity with its themes of self-reliance and integrity. Oliver was a widely popular writer whose grounded, unadorned writing style resonated with people across the globe. The poem is about the importance of taking charge of one's own life and leaving behind negative influences. Mary Oliver, the prolific and award-winning poet, died on Thursday. As such, we commit to honouring their role modelling of being good ancestors by continuing to work towards inclusive climate and social justice, for this generation and all that follows.
